Ep. 006: Betsy was a Salty Girl

Teacher Librarians Chris Patrick and Tracy Chrenka present “Loud in the Library Ep. 006: Betsy was a Salty Girl” in which they speak with YA author Ruta Sepetys about her hometown of Detroit, the importance of historical fiction, and her early experience as a banned books author. Chris and Tracy also speak with School Library Journal reviews director Kiera Parrot about SLJ’s 2016 Best Books list, which is now available at slj.com.

Loud in the Library’s next episode will be released on December 15 and will feature an interview with Bruce Cameron, author of A Dog’s Purpose and A Dog’s Journey.

Bonus Episode: a Conversation with Kate DiCamillo

Teacher Librarians Chris Patrick and Tracy Chrenka present Loud in the Library’s “Bonus Episode: A Conversation with Kate DiCamillo” in which they speak with Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo about downhill skiiing, snowshoes, the impact of Beverly Cleary, and what she’s currently reading. Plus, an original ditty thrown in for good measure.

Ep. 005: Cooler and Less Health Foody

Teacher Librarians Chris Patrick and Tracy Chrenka present “Loud in the Library Ep. 005: Cooler and Less Health Foody” in which they speak with YA author Steve Sheinkin about his nonfiction titles, the research process, and his upcoming book about Jim Thorpe. Chris and Tracy also ask a group of students the question “what makes a story scary?” as well as discussing the books that they’re reading and books that are on their radar.

Loud in the Library’s next episode will be a bonus episode and will be released on November 1st. It will feature an interview with award-winning author Kate DiCamillo.

Teacher Librarians Chris Patrick and Tracy Chrenka present “Loud in the Library Ep. 003: Two Sides of the Same Coin”, in which they speak with Michigan author Tobin Buhk about true crime, research, the writing process, and his website “Dark Corners of History.” During their interview with Mr. Buhk, Chris refers to the still unsolved West Michigan “Deanie Peters” case from 35 years ago. Chris and Tracy also discuss books,  Nerd Camp, and the Eisner Awards.

Teacher Librarians Chris Patrick and Tracy Chrenka present “Loud in the Library Ep. 002: Gushing with Fanboy Juice”, in which they speak with YA author Andrew Smith about the upcoming film adaptation of his novel Grasshopper Jungle, censorship, and the writing process. They also discuss summer reading and provide sources to find your perfect summer read. And, as an added bonus, they toss in a couple of vintage dad jokes.

Teacher Librarians Tracy Chrenka and Chris Patrick welcome author/illustrator Floyd Cooper to their podcast “Loud in the Library.” Mr. Cooper talks about his craft and his upcoming visit to Grand Rapids. Tracy and Chris also discuss books they’ve read, books they’re currently reading, and books they intend to read. And finally, they celebrate National Poetry Month by reading a couple of their favorite poems.
